Donations Make a Difference
Over the years, donations to Conibear Rowing Club have helped the club build its rowing program and encourage many women to row and develop as athletes. Funds raised have enabled Conibear to acquire needed shells, oars and other equipment to serve a growing number of participants in novice classes, regular practices and regattas.
Thanks to the tireless efforts and generous gifts from club members and former rowers, Conibear is now the proud owner of the Synergy (eight), Corazon (eight), Kulshan (four/quad), Grace (pair/double), Viva la Chick (straight quad),two new pair doubles (Jinx and Jule)and will recieve a new eight by opening day 2010.
Donations also help Conibear reach beyond its membership to encourage younger women as rowers and athletes. With proceeds from its annual fundraising, Conibear donates to a scholarship fund for the University of Washington Husky team. Because of this partnership, Conibear has subsequently become a place for many young Husky graduates to develop professional coaching skills, under the guidance of head coach Sara Lopez.
Additionally, Conibear supports the Rainier Valley Rowing program (RVR) under the Row forth Future program through loaning equipment, volunteer work, strong support of the yearly fundraiser and donations. The wonderful program assists underserved youth from the local area to gain access to rowing to row with the juniors out of the Mt Baker boat house.
