DO-IT (Disabilities, Opportunities, Internetworking and Technology) University of Washington, Seattle, WA
Coordinated an U.S. Department of Education grant to increase the participation of people with disabilities in careers in business and technology fields. Managed day-to-day operations of the project; supervised CAREERS project staff; managed the budget; produced project reports; and coordinated project evaluation.
Provided individual and group presentations on academic and career guidance to high school and post-secondary students. Assisted students in locating work-based learning opportunities and provided on-site support in the work environment.
Presented awareness and training presentations to employers, faculty, career services, advising and cooperative education staff to make them better prepared to include students with disabilities in their programs. Coordinated with other staff the development of instructional materials, publications, videotapes, journal articles, and presentation curriculum.
- Northwest Region Director, 1997-2000
Special Olympics Washington, Seattle, WA
Directed Regional operations and programs involving over 1500 developmentally disabled athletes and 500 volunteers participating in year round sport programs. Established a Regional Office to provide direct program services; enhanced and secured revenue sources; recruited and trained key community program volunteers; developed promotional and sponsorship materials; conducted outreach and educational presentations; and managed 15 special events annually.
Supervised the recruitment, training and program operations of over 150 Special Olympics coaches directing 75 teams of developmentally disabled children and adults in 16 sports training and competition programs during four seasons annually. Responsible for coordination and communication with local coordinators and coaches throughout the season; planned team logistics for practice and competition including facilities, travel, equipment and uniforms acquisition; and enforced participation and conduct guidelines for volunteers and athletes.
Managed the conceptualization and implementation of a new, multi-sport athletic event involving seven sport venues, over 700 athletes and 400 volunteers. Developed a volunteer management team, secured sponsors, identified and managed staffing, facility usage, equipment and logistics requirements.

Served as a management team member in the conceptualization, design, and execution of the venue development and operational plan for the 1996 Olympic Games rowing competition.

Managed a municipal Rowing and Sailing Center during its initial period of operation. Developed safety and operational plans; planned class schedules and facility use; instituted special events and annual recognition programs for participants and volunteers; supervised equipment acquisition and maintenance; produced class curriculum and promotional materials; and recruited, hired, trained and supervised recreation staff.

Fundraising and Financial Management
- Coordinated spending, accounting, and reporting for a three-year $355,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education. Managed additional small grants and gifts totaling $7,000 to support outreach and internship program activities for students with disabilities in Seattle and Spokane.
- Managed budget preparation, revenue development, financial accounting and management for a $150,000 annual operating budget for the Northwest Region of Special Olympics Washington. Supervised and directed the initiation of a multi-site, fundraising pledge run/walk; increased corporate and civic group sponsorship; developed civic and corporate partnerships.
- Developed and managed the annual department operating budget of $1.5 million for the USRowing domestic and international programs. Prepared special project and athlete support grant requests, and produced annual compliance and status reports.
- Created and managed budgets and time schedules for comprehensive event operations of national, regional and local events. Collaborated with various organizations and sponsors to develop sponsorship and marketing strategies, create promotional materials, implemented donor recognition, and effectively implemented the event theme and atmosphere.
